Macmillan Way Walk
290 Miles Boston to Chesil Beach
May 5th 2012 to May 27th 2012
I am aiming to raise £5000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by walking 290
miles from Boston
to Chesil beach.
Why
Boston to Chesil Beach
you ask?
This
is the route of The Macmillan Way, a long distance footpath dedicated to the
memory of Douglas Macmillan MBE, founder of the Macmillan Cancer Support
Charity. The path starts at Boston , Lincolnshire and passes through the changing countryside
of Southern England . From its origins in the
fenlands the route passes Rutland Water, follows through the limestone belt of
the Cotswolds and then the undulating counties of Somerset
and Dorset before finally reaching a conclusion on the pebbles of Chesil Beach ,
near Weymouth .
£5000 will pay the costs of a Macmillan Nurse for more than a month. Every
additional £1000 raised will mean that another week of specialist care can be
provided.
The Macmillan organisation does a fantastic job in providing support for cancer sufferers and their families. I know of many people who have received valuable encouragement and support when they have been at their most vulnerable. It is the sort of thing that I am absolutely hopeless at. What I can do is walk to generate some publicity and raise funds so that those who can do the job very much better than me can do more of it”.
I am doing all of the walking. All you have to do is flash the plastic to help a worthy cause.
The
initial response from friends and family has caught me somewhat by surprise. Within a
few days the donations have started to accumulate rapidly and have almost reached
£2000 to date. Donations can be made online at www.justgiving.com/macway
